Alphonse O'Danniel Files 3 by ~Ringadon:iconRingadon:

Fudmyer Manor was a rich palatial estate. If you wanted to find something you could find ten of them at that house.  Their butler was a real nice fellow too. He gave me a very charming little tour ending with his own personal quarters. His pay must have been hansom; he had every conceivable bladed weapon there. From Abalone knives to a zviehander, he had it all.
“So... collect knives do ya?” I asked nonchalantly.
“Oh, yes sir. I simply love blades nothing better than a knife for most jobs.” he replied.
“The only thing that's missing, at least as far as I can tell, is a dirk. Why's that?”
“Ah...  well you see sir... my dirk went... missing about... 2 days ago.” (He had begun to sweat very profusely)
“Just around the time of your employer's dissapearance?”
“Ah... let me see........ yes sir... around that time.” (his eyes started shifting around the room as if they were appraising options)
It was just then that I got a call from police headquarters on my cell. I know a few of the guys at the department, I've cooked for them a time or two, so any time I take a case I let them know what I can so that they can help me fill in the blanks. It turns out that the body of  Timothy Fudmyer had been found earlier in the day. There was a dirk in his back, and stab wounds were the decided cause of death. It was all starting to become clear to me. I thanked the police man and told him that I had nearly worked the case out, just a couple of small details that still needed looking into. I turned back to the butler.
“Well I think the police just found your dirk. It was found in your employer's back along with several stab wounds. So I think I can just about call this case a wrap. Obviously the murderer knew that you had lots of weapons in here and had access to them himself. The murderer also obviously knew where Timothy Fudmyer worked and what he was worth. Since your dirk went missing 2 days ago, which I might add was the day of the murder, I can only reach one conclusion.... (He was really sweating now, as well as hyperventilating. Poor guy.) The murderer stole your dirk in an attempt to frame you for the crime (at this point the poor man fainted). I went back home assured that I was only a hairs breadth away from solving the case. Not bad work for my first day of investigation. I was woken up at about 2 in the morning, just a little after I had actually managed to get to sleep. My cell was ringing, and it was the precinct again. They told me that they had managed to catch the guy responsible for  Timothy Fudmyer's murder. Apparently the butler came down a little after I left and confessed to the whole thing. It was a little odd I hadn't pegged the guy as a killer and my gut hardly ever leads me wrong. Apparently I was getting the credit for making the guy crack anyway so I didn't care that I had got it wrong. I'd still get payed and that's all I really cared about in the first place. I decided to take a week off and then head back over to Zeppo's and get my job back at severely reduced pay.
